Privacy and the workplace

Article Abstract:

The implications of technological surveillance and genetic testing by government agencies on the rights to privacy of employees are examined. Results show that courts have allowed public agencies to conduct invasive personnel procedures provided that these are reasonable, the employer has a compelling interest in performing them, and that incursions are job-related. A framework to help public managers to preserve both employee privacy and employers' right to conduct invasive procedures is discussed.

The Prisoner's Dilemma and the prisoners of the Prisoner's Dilemma

Article Abstract:

The popularity of the use of the Prisoner's Dilemma as a way to represent business and modern corporations in management schools is ill-founded. This kind of representation is defective because the two prisoners in the story do not have any ties with each other as in a democracy. Hence, defection as an option is not valid because there is no one to defect from. Also, there is no common understanding on what can be considered as bond between the two prisoners.
