MB, L-P announce major asset sales

MacMillan Bloedel Ltd. and Louisiana-Pacific Corp., two forest products companies, plan to unload major assets as part of their current restructuring processes. Oregon-based Louisiana-Pacific Corp. will sell 300,000 acres of redwood timberland, three sawmills and two distribution facilities to Simpson Investment Co. and Sansome Partners LP. MacMillan Bloedel Ltd. of British Columbia will sell two paper mills to an investment group that will run the mills under the name Pacifica Papers Co.

Industry consolidation continues in Canada

Canadian forest industry companies plan to continue consolidating in 1995. Canfor Corp will swap stock worth $650 million Canadian for Slocan Forest Products Ltd. Both firms manufacture pulp and lumber in Vancouver, British Columbia. MacMillan Bloedel Ltd will acquire the stock worth $118 million Canadian of Green Forest Lumber Corp. International Forest Products Ltd will acquire the British Columbia coast division of Weldwood of Canada Ltd for approximately $200 million Canadian.
