Millwork producers seek 'other' raw material sources

Article Abstract:

Secondary wood product producers met on May 14, 1993 to discuss species of timber other than the Douglas fir and the western pine for use in lumber mill products. Sawmills are already lacking for raw materials, and the secondary wood products market is not far behind. The conferees examined using the Radiata pine, southern pine, fir, larch, sitka spruce, eastern white pine and a variety of hardwoods to fill the gaps left by the dwindling raw material supply of Douglas fir and western pine.

Observers see favorable business climate ahead

Article Abstract:

A panel discussion was held to discuss the effects of the elections of many members of the Republican Party in Congress in Nov 1994. There were businessmen in the softwood and hardwood industries, an economist and an environmentalist. Most of the panel agreed that there would probably be a decrease in government regulation and an increase in respect for private property. They also believe another increase in interest rates could have adverse effects.
