Automated vision systems: they're not just `alchemy'

Scanning and image processing technology provide solutions for defect and crosscutting applications as well as edging and ripping operations. Employees that utilize the new technologies must be familiar with the products produced and the entire scope of operations. Since 1997, manufacturers of scanner technology have been able to complete color and laser detection without reducing speed.

Culin/Collela uses a computer numeric controlled wood router and a CAD-CAM system to manufacture superior quality curved moulding and various custom wood products. The company's custom wood product manufacturing process is analyzed. The special techniques used to create curved woodwork are discussed.
