9/11 and the war in Iraq are linked because ...

Article Abstract:

The most fundamental way that 9/11 was linked to the war in Iraq was that Washington learned a lesson from Saddam Hussein about the danger of failing to confront threats before they were fully formed. Iraq posed a threat to the US national security by continuing to possess and develop chemical, biological and nuclear weapons, as well as supporting and harboring terrorist organizations, and the attacks on the US of September 11, 2001 underscored the gravity of the threat posed by the acquisition of weapons of mass destruction by international terrorist activities.

Article Abstract:

The authors look at the extension to the Patriot Act from opposing standpoints. Hart believes that the Patriot Act was necessary for the prevention of terrorism, whereas Nadler believes that the implementation of the act capitalised on the public's fears of terrorism rather than calming them.
