A town called Cucumber ... and just about every other name under the sun

Offbeat names for towns abound. Examples include Poy Sippi, WI; Zap, ND; Cucumber, WV; Boring, OR; and Cut-N-Shoot, TX. Names can be derived from geography, which is why there are towns called China, Denmark and New Sweden. Others are named after presidents, celebrities and numbers.

A town called Cucumber

Article Abstract:

Several US towns have offbeat names such as Cucumber, Ink, Bowlegs, Cut-N-Shoot, Whiskeytown and Poy Sippi. Some towns are named after ex-presidents, countries, popular taverns, historic events and numbers. Most town names are selected by residents and postal officials.
