As i lay reading: An Oprah, Faulkner and Middle America

Article Abstract:

Oprah Winfrey announced in the summer of 2004 that her book club would embark on a program called, 'A Summer of Faulkner', which was an attack on the whole idea of beach reading. Oprah has ignored pleas for a return to contemporary fiction and hence by proposing to read works of an author whose exploration of race and the American South still unsettles readers, she took a major gamble on her audience's attention span and political sensitivities.

The Clean Hub can serve people in temporary settlements like refugee camps, or in semi permanent slums that lack basic infrastructure and can significantly improve the lives of the world's slum dwellers as called for by the United Nations' Millennium Goal.
