Back to the heart of organics: "Poison free" is good, but is it good enough?

Article Abstract:

The official federal organic standard, which was expected to assist in selling organic products nationally and create a standard for the farmers, has resulted in the small farmers losing their niche and putting the organic dream in danger. The new rules designed by the USDA does not have any mention of the type of food that can be considered as organic, hence it is important to purchase the food locally and even though it may not be labeled as organic, it should be clean and grown without pesticides.

Article Abstract:

However, it is doubtful whether this groundswell signals an isolated consumer uprising or the growing strength of a new movement pressing for media democracy.
