Four winners of the Congressional Medal of Honor are profiled: Robert E. Simanek, Michael Thornton, Samuel Woodfill and Charles E. Kelly. Simanek, Thornton, Woodfill and Kelly won their medals for their heroic actions in the Korean War, Vietnam War, World War I and World War II, respectively.

'The world turned upside down.' (The American Revolution: Fighting for Independence, Part 3)

Article Abstract:

General George Washington and French allies won a pivotal victory at Yorktown, VA, in 1781 that brought Britain to surrender. Intelligence from a black slave revealed plans by British General Charles Cornwallis to retreat to Yorktown, which made his forces vulnerable to a surprise attack.

Cyrus Field: uniting the world

Article Abstract:

Field developed the idea of laying an underwater telegraph cable between Ireland and Newfoundland in 1854. The cable broke three times before the connection finally became permanent in 1866. Other countries eventually became part of the telegraph network.
