Brieden presents 'blueprint' to House, Senate

Article Abstract:

John Brieden, American Legion National Commander, informed a joint session of the House and Senate Veterans Affairs Committees in Washington that VA, the Veterans Health Administration and the Veterans Board of Appeals had failed in their duty to provide assistance to thousands of American servicemembers. He promised to work with the committees to improve the lives of America's veterans that would fulfill the obligation of a grateful nation.

The serum run

Article Abstract:

The great deeds of a spirited group of people and animals that helped save innumerable lives in Alaska during the terrible tragedy that occurred in Nome are narrated. Commemorating the event a colonel initiated The Serum Run in 1997 where a long-distance dog sled and snow machine expedition is held while the idiatrod race also known as the Last Great Race, which covers more than 1100 miles is also held in Nome during March every year.

The Veterans History Project

Article Abstract:

The U.S. Congress in October 2000, voted unanimously for legislation creating the Veterans History Project, which is collecting veterans' personal histories on audio and video tape, as well as letters, diaries, maps, photographs and home movies. The project invites veterans of World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War and the Persian Gulf Wars to share their stories.
