Celebrating 100 years of tidying up

Article Abstract:

The Jaffrey Center Village Improvement Society (VIS) founded by Margaret Casson Robinson and Kate Fox in 1906 would celebrate its centennial with an open house in 2006 and serves as the front law of the 1775 Old Meetinghouse. The group has already marked its anniversary by providing the town with its new Centennial Park, and the VIS is starting its second hundred years with a $13,000 restoration of the windows in Melville Academy and an expanded endowment.

When the telescope nuts come back to Stellafane

Article Abstract:

Stellafane, the oldest amateur astronomer convention, has been meeting in Springfield, VT, since 1926. Stargazers come from around the US, Canada and England with homemade telescopes. Making one's own mirror is a requirement. Telescopes are judged on construction, craftsmanship and optics.

A summer's hero

Article Abstract:

A chronicle of Harry Atwood's aviation adventure in 1911 is presented. Aside from setting a record for the longest continuous cross-country flight in America, Atwood also became the first man to fly from Boston to New York with the use of a biplane.
