China's big bang

Article Abstract:

Feng Jicai, author and activist, criticized the Chinese government for allowing architects from all over the world to modernize the world's most populous country and fill its cities with skyscrapers that literally erase China's heritage, both physically and psychologically. He led protests over the demolition of old buildings and also wrote a book, 'Rescuing the Old Street', detailing his attempt to halt the destruction of traditional architecture.

The Chicago-based Creative America Project is recruiting and training artists with a goal to teach organizers and candidates how to run for local office using grassroots progressive strategies as a creative person. Kathie de Nobriga, Creative America board member states that artists are a great-underused resource in civic life and their creativity and imagination can be used in the political arena.
