Senate members in Canada enjoy a number of privileges. Aside from a hefty annual salary, a research grant, an office budget and a tax-exempt allowance, they also have perks that include in-house shopping, redecorating, travel, health and fitness, rest and recreation and communications.

The Canadian Parliament is being criticized for providing extravagant pensions to its members for short terms of service. The Reform Party has advocated a new pension system, while several provinces have already reformed their own pension plans for representatives.

Canada's Members of Parliament (MP) have come up with a pension plan for themselves that ordinary Canadians can only dream of. Under the plan, an MP who has served for a minimum of six years can start drawing a pension upon leaving office.
