Large Scottish companies include Scottish Power, which has made a number of fortunate acquisitions such as Manweb and Demon internet. Stagecoach is a transportation company which should benefit from government policy to increase the usage of public transportation, and the company is also expanding abroad. Scottish and Newcastle is a brewer which has been affected by a drop in demand for beer. Royal Bank of Scotland has performed well, though there could be some problems from its activities in Asia. Burmah Castrol appears to be recovering from difficult market conditions.
