Europe's food fight

Article Abstract:

Many have welcomed the coming together of different nations under the European Union (EU) as it paves the way for better relations between countries but there are many people who dread the thought of being a part of the union. The EU food regulations that come into force from May 1, 2004 imposes strict regulations on the way food is to be made but there are many cases where local traditions in food processing are respected and manufacturers are allowed to continue traditional manufacturing techniques.

Genuine national security

Article Abstract:

Amory Lovins, the co-founder of the Rocky Mountain Institute, says the right approach to defending our borders is to first make sure no large group of people are without basic needs, such as shelter, food and energy. With that in mind, the US should include increased foreign aid as part of a national security strategy. Lovins also talks about conflict avoidance/prevention, conflict resolution and nonprovactive defense.

Ruining the river

Article Abstract:

The U.S. army Corps plans to reconstruct the locks over the Mississippi river, as according to them the existing system is not capable to carry the grain and Midwestern exports to the global market successfully. However, quite a few of the environmental groups and the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy (IATP) are not in favor of this project.
