Bo Lazoff says that American's concept of crime and punishment needs to be redefined. As it is, it is very much like the fantasy land of 'The Lord of the Flies' where might is right. The most fundamental cause of this lack of faith in the ultimate goodness of life. For Jerome Miller, crime has become focused on the minorities of low income group, specifically the blacks. The criminal justice system itself creates violence, both institutional and that which is engendered by the milieu.
