Ordinary citizens can help mitigate the potential disastrous effects of the Y2K computer date bug by spreading information regarding the problem. As most companies are preoccupied with tackling the technical aspects of the problem, the citizens may lead or assist in organizing emergency services.

Descriptions of possible Y2K problems are all hypothetical as no one knows for sure what would really happen with the advent of the second millennium. However, it is always better for individuals to err on the side of caution. Citizens should work together to prepare for worst case scenarios.
