Is humanity suicidal?

Article Abstract:

One view of the future of ecology is exemptionalism, which argues that human intelligence will solve problems as they occur. The opposing and more realistic view, environmentalism, maintains that the environment is necessary to man's survival and can be irreversibly damaged.
