It's a dog's love: what dogs teach us about ourselves

The relationship between dogs and humans transcends the functional sphere of mutual dependence. This is because dogs give themselves extravagantly. Such hyperbolic extravagance on the dog's parts draws out from the human an equally hyperbolic response.

Wonder dogs

Article Abstract:

Canine Assistants was a program developed in Dec. 1991 in Alpharetta, GA, to train dogs to help disabled people. The animals are trained for one year by volunteers before they are allowed to act as companions for the handicapped.
