On target: Boy Scouts take aim at shooting skills - and safety

Article Abstract:

Firearm shooting lessons for Boy Scouts are described. Scouts are taught to shoot at clay disks with shotguns and at targets with rifles. Safety is emphasized throughout the training, and anyone is permitted to say 'cease fire' at anytime during the training.

Boy scout troops can help scouts learn about problem solving and decision making by using leadership as the theme of a wilderness survival program. This program teaches scouts how to survive if they become stranded in the wilderness.

Boy Scout programs on emergency preparedness train Scouts to react quickly to perform rescues and give first aid when a life-threatening situation occurs. One troop simulated the rescue of a Scout trapped under a fallen tree.
