Submarine combat system integration

Article Abstract:

Modern submarine combat systems include above and below water tactical sensors, command and control equipment, communications, weapons and weapon handling equipment, and navigation equipment. Submarine System Integration was undertaken to define systems by their equipment requirements, but often fundamental design flaws came to light just months before proposed entry into service. The Federated Synthetic Environment (FSE) is a virtual system combining the benefits of a 'green field' design with cost and timescale benefits.

Fast electrochemical studies in isolated tissues

Article Abstract:

Some fast-scanning electrochemical techniquesusing carbon-fiber electrodes are available for qualitative and quantitative studies in isolated tissues. Detection of changes in the chemical environment of brain tissue using these methods can be done with a time resolution of less than 10 ms while detection of electroactive species can be done at concentrations less than 10 nM. Satisfactory anatomical precision can also be attained due to the size of the electrode.
