Local government regulation of the movies: the Dallas system, 1966-93

Article Abstract:

The Dallas Motion Picture Classification Board (DMPCB), which created a new system of film classification after censorship at government level became defunct, was abolished in 1993 as it failed to keep up with the times. The DMPCB system of public ordering of motion picture content became ineffectual due to changing popular tastes, growth of cable and home television, claims of non-representativeness and its negative economic impact on film distributors. DMPCB system was soon replaced by the Motion Picture Association of America ratings as it was seen as more adequate.
