Student buy into the power of books

Article Abstract:

Douglas Alternative Elementary, an open-enrollment literature-based school in Ohio has a library with more than 6,000 books, which serves as the school's hub and has wide-open areas instead of traditional classrooms. A parent volunteer created the Douglas Book Exchange (DBX) wherein the students can buy gently used books at 25 cents each or they can bring a book they have finished and trade it in for another.

Nancy Henrichsen, who has acted in more than 30 plays, plays a great role as a volunteer director of studentEs musicals at Patrick Henry Middle School in Sioux Falls. Nancy ran the show like a professional production, which gave students the responsibilities beyond their learning line.
