Article Abstract:
There have been two basic types of camcorder until recently, 8mm and VHS-C. Tapes used in 8mm camcorders give recording time of 90 minutes in standard play and 180 minutes in long play, while tapes used in VHS-C camcorders give recording time of 45 minutes in standard play and 90 minutes in long play. Both formats have high-band versions which give better picture quality, known as S-VHS-C and Hi-8. To benefit from these versions, it is necessary to view tapes on a television set with an S-type input. It is now also possible to purchase digital camcorders, which offer very high sound and picture quality. The best 8mm camcorder is the Samsung VP-K70, while the best VHS-C camcorder is the Panasonic NV-RX1B.
