That modern pharmacology relies on exotic ingredients in developing medications as much as folk medicine does is not a widely known fact. Mare urine, pig and cow testes, mistletoe and chili peppers are among the unexpected ingredients in a range of FDA-approved medicines.

Sophistication usually means behaving with a certain grace, and can be inferred from a person's person's knowledge one has can matter. Sometimes knowledge, and the way it is handled, gets in the way of behavior and cancels what some see as 'sophisticated.'
