Pres. Bill Clinton is running for reelection against Republican challenger Robert J. Dole in the Nov. 1996 elections. The two presidential candidates give their views on issues such as national security, veterans' affairs, welfare reform, citizenship, flag desecration and illegal immigration.

Gay politics goes mainstream

Article Abstract:

The 1992 presidential campaign is the first one in which gays and lesbians have been involved in a major way. The AIDS epidemic is an important factor in this politicization. Homosexuals are supporting Bill Clinton and are facing a backlash from the political right.
