Tough times, tougher talk

Article Abstract:

Economists representing the US must ensure they do not lose out when bargaining with overseas competition, particularly from Germany and Japan. The US should work at strengthening its own economy in order to hold an unrivalled position in the world. Economic aims should be established and agreed before presenting them to the foreign opposition. The negotiators must be trained in the culture of the opposing side to be able to participate more successfully. The American people will have to cope with increased taxation and fewer jobs if the negotiators fail.
