When Louise Dickinson Rich came home to the woods

Louise Dickinson Rich described her life as a wife and mother living in a very remote part of northwestern Maine in her 1942 book, 'We Took to the Woods.' The book became a national best-seller that year, inspiring thousands to seek the simple, rural life. Fifty years later, it still sells 2,000 copies a year.

Harvest in Little Compton
