Breaking out

Article Abstract:

Members of minority groups in California are serving as political consultants for politicians who want to reach out to specific ethnic groups. Having achieved success in the ethnic communities, many of these advisers are aiming to launch their own consulting firm. They believe that they are capable enough to target a wider group beyond their own ethnic affiliations. However, it is still unclear, if they transcend their traditional niches, whether they can make a difference in how campaigns are ran or how the issues are framed.

Choreography a la Clinton

Article Abstract:

US president Bill Clinton's skills at spin doctoring to enhance his political profile have been adopted by California Governor Gray Davis. Davis, like Clinton, attempts to use small, relatively insignificant issues to gain popularity. His public relations campaign fails to convince political observers, however. Davis seeks to assert his politics and hopes to be opposed by liberal-minded party members.
