Environmental regulation and the eco-industry

Article Abstract:

Presently, a drawback in environmental policy is that the suppliers of pollution abatement technologies determine the extent of damage being caused by the polluters. If a polluting firm chooses to install the pollution control goods manufactured by one supplier, it is unlikely that the other suppliers of the pollution control technology will find the measures adequate. Consequently, the taxes on emissions would have to be higher leading to evasion. Based on this, it can be concluded that voluntary adherence to pollution control methods is not achievable without the support of eco-industry.
