Job matching, social network and word-of-mouth communication

Article Abstract:

The aim of the study is threefold, first, a micro scenario for the matching function in which finding a job depends on social contacts and informal methods is developed, second, the relationship between network size and job matches is analyzed, and finally the steady-state labor market equilibrium, establish existence, uniqueness is characterized. Also it is demonstrated that the decentralized market equilibrium is not efficient because of both search and network externalities.

Location and education in South African cities under and after apartheid

Article Abstract:

This article evaluates a South African city under and after apartheid, to show that there has been a decrease in inequality between whites and blacks once the apartheid rules were removed. Results show that blacks are better off since they have the opportunity to mix with white students; however, whites are worse off, largely do to land market competition.

Spatial mismatch, transport mode and search decisions in England

Article Abstract:

A theoretical model in which whites mainly use private vehicles to commute where as non-whites use public transportation is developed. This model is tested using English sub-regional data and the results state that for each race, living in areas where distance to jobs is higher yields the unemployed to search less than in areas with better job access.
