Openness, country size and government

Article Abstract:

Country size is inimical to government size as well as to trade openness. This is because in addition to their being more susceptible to open trade, smaller countries tend to have a bigger apportionment of public consumption in the gross domestic product. On the other hand, large countries can be directed by smaller governments which can function with reduced taxes. Large countries can also be advantageously buoyed by bigger markets which lowers the pressure to open trade. However, despite these advantages, the economic burdens of a heterogeneous cultural makeup adversely affect them.

Fiscal crises and aggregate demand: can high public debt reverse the effects of fiscal policy?

Article Abstract:

The effects of debt fiscal policy can vary depending on the level of public debt. Moderate levels of public debt have been found to have an equalizing effect on fiscal policy wile high levels of public debt may produce the opposite with regards to debt fiscal policy. The reason is that consumers would want to spend more to offset higher future tax payments in the event of high public debt.
