Reading notes, autumn 1995: Britain has entered the age of economic maturity and stability - the facade institutions

Article Abstract:

The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) says in its report that economic problems that plagued Britain during the 1970s and 1980s have ended. The economic situation is reassessed in the report. OECD suggests that three economic sectors namely inflation, unemployment and continuation of the same level of taxation should be kept under tight control. Rapid decrease of unemployment is impossible although the number of unemployed workers can be brought down to some optimum figure in an advanced industrial economic country.

The consequences of consequences

Article Abstract:

The collection of essays, 'After the Fall,' is a faulty attempt discuss Marxist-Leninist philosophies by 'New Left' intellectuals. Another collection, 'The God that Failed,' was published in 1950 by 'Old Left' intellectuals who revealed their experiences under the fraudulent Marxist-Leninist ideology of the Soviet Union. In comparison, the new collection has none of the strengths and even the essay selection is poorly done. 'New Left' intellectuals were abandoned by the ideology while 'Old Left' thinkers chose to desert a failure.

Her Majesty the Queen

Article Abstract:

Queen Elizabeth II of Britain in 1992 marked the 41st anniversary of her accession. She has earned a reputation for steady devotion to duty and political wisdom that Britain's leaders should make use of. The Queen has called 1992 horrible, but the tabloid reporting largely responsible for the Queen's unhappiness does not represent the British people. Most British citizens wish the Queen many more years on the throne to allow her to repair the damage wrought by Prince Charles's separation from Princess Diana.
