Reform in a cold climate: Change in US campaign finance law

Article Abstract:

The success of the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act (BCRA) of 2002, which was the first major change in federal campaign finance law in a quarter of century in the US, is presented. The reasons, for why the issue of campaign finance emerged, but attempts at reform failed, are explained and the legislative struggle that resulted in BCRA's enactment is described.

Clinton's encounter with the separation of powers: 'united' and 'divided' gridlock

Article Abstract:

This article examines the legacy of Bill Clinton and his administration. The author focuses on the 1994 mid-term elections when Clinton lost control of both houses of Congress, and the period after when Clinton failed to regain control, and explores the way in which Clinton handled political gridlock.

Liberal democracies have seen a significant increase of radical right-wing movements since World War II. France, Germany, and the US are challenged by anti-modern organizations motivated by what they believe they have lost in contemporary social and political projects.
