The case for international coordination of electricity regulation: Evidence from the measurement of efficiency in South America

Article Abstract:

Since operators control most of the information needed for effective regulation, it has become difficult to monitor the performance of public and private monopolies of electricity sector reform in South America. Data envelopment analysis and stochastic frontier analysis is used to estimate the efficiency of South Americas main electricity distribution companies.

Wholesale spot price pass-through

Article Abstract:

When electricity markets open to retail competitors, the distributors will be required to sell the electricity at wholesale spot market prices to residential customers. This is known as spot price pass-through(SPP) policy. After its failure in San Diego, California, alternative policies are proposed.

Price-cost margins and profit rates in New Zealand electricity distribution networks since 1994: the cost of light handed regulation

Article Abstract:

The analysis of financial performance data of New ZealandEs electricity lines networks has revealed the higher price-cost margins of these businesses since deregulation. The degree to which olight handed regulationo has allowed higher profits for these businesses is analyzed.
