The revolution of 1992: how candidates used the media

Article Abstract:

The 1992 presidential elections ushered in a new era in politicking withthe use of direct, unfiltered messages to the people. These came in the form ofinfomercials, talk show appearances and town hall meetings, all of which are referred to as 'alternative media,' which provides direct links to the voters. Both Bill Clinton and Ross Perot were able to use these forms of communication to their fullest extent. Based on the results of the campaigns, it is expected that nature of national campaigning in the future will never be the same.

Reflections from the publisher

Article Abstract:

The political system of the US faces several interrelated problems such as leadership failure, campaign finance, capitol corruption, media coverage and distance between leaders and voters which have led to a declining voter participation. The elections no longer represent the wishes of the majority as most of them are disillusioned by the degradation of the system. A comprehensive reform is essential to deal with several of the problems and find appropriate solutions.
