Trying to balance jobs and housing

Article Abstract:

One of the problems facing people who live in Silicon Valley is finding a balance between the wealth of good jobs and the lack of affordable housing. Regional planners predict that over the next ten years there will be 200,000 new jobs, yet only 70,000 housing units.

The housing pinch

All across the state of California, the demand for housing is outstripping the supply, and causing housing prices to escalate rapidly. In February 2001, northern Californians took part in a political rally to support affordable housing.

Land-use woes hit home

Article Abstract:

Issues are presented concerning the influence which land-use disputes had on the outcome of the 2000 elections in the state of California. The defeat of slow-growth campaigners in San Luis Obispo and Sonoma counties is discussed.
