31-P NMR spectroscopic analysis of wound healing: the effect of hydrocolloid therapy

Article Abstract:

Chronic wound biochemistry measured with phosphorus-31 nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy may provide a quick assessment of the healing status for a wound. Wound care professionals usually have to wait two weeks to decide whether a chronic wound is generating, storing or using energy. An NMR analysis of two low-pH hydrocolloid materials used to treat two non-healing leg ulcers showed cellular activity which indicated the healing outcome.

The federal balanced budget: challenges for wound care

Article Abstract:

One consequence of the drive to balance the federal budget is reduced spending on Medicare and Medicaid, which support care for over half the patients needing wound care. Policy makers need the advice of health care professionals to best apply cost containment measures. The debate needs to be presented in terms of positive outcomes from clinical intervention. Caregivers will need to devote more effort toward prevention and greater efficiency.
