Meidinger Inc.'s annual Hospital Management Compensation Survey for 1983 shows that hospital staff received a smaller increase in salaries and benefits, etc. in 1983 than in 1982. However, with a lower inflation rate, real income is increasing. Healthcare managers start at a lower salary than comparable managers in other industries, but now they are receiving higher increases in salaries. Bed size is the traditional method in evaluating an administrator's salary, but other categories, such as comparing hospitals of similar revenues, may be more accurate.
