Color me cautious

Article Abstract:

The surprise and shock expressed by certain executives upon being laid off reflect a double standard considering the insensitive and haughty manner in which they treat their subalterns. Often, the difference between an executives retaining their posts and being fired depends on the positive relationships which have been developed with their coworkers. Executives should strive to identify with their subalterns to manage them as effectively as possible.

Road less traveled

Article Abstract:

A former hospital CEO reflects on his decision to take a position teaching health care management and not be a CEO. While many have criticized his decision, he feels that teaching can be challenging and enables him to reflect on the healthcare industry in a broader way than when he was a CEO. Being a teacher, he believes, also helps to refine analytical and communication skills, and it enables students to interact with a health care executive.

Take this job and love it?

Article Abstract:

Health care administrators are becoming increasingly discontent with their professional careers. Many executives no longer find the sense of value in their work that initially captured their interest in the health care field. Health care trends, such as large service delivery, are placing less emphasis on humanitarianism and service and more emphasis on profit. Health care administrators must work together to bring respect to the profession.
