Current environment: bad debt still taking its toll

Article Abstract:

The downward trend observed in the 2001 and 2002, continues for healthcare industry in 2005. This is mainly due to increase in the number of self-pay and uninsured patients. The rise in the consumer healthcare costs, popularity in health savings accounts, the regulatory outlook, increased competition among specialty hospitals and traditional acute care providers, and the economic performance of the for-profit hospitals, are also discussed.

Bad debt: finally on the mend?

The economic downtrend in 2001 and 2002 and corresponding effects on indebtedness of healthcare facilities in United States are discussed. The prospects for the industry in 2005 appear to be promising. The positive aspects of regulations pertaining to the industry are examined. Health savings accounts and specialty hospital issues are also mentioned.
