Effective performance measurements

Article Abstract:

Effective performance measurements and 'root cause analysis' can enable a manager to curb any unit problems through systematic assessment of performance and possible sources of effective performance. Twelve parameters can be used as guides in performance measurements: performance to budget, performance to sales plan, performance to production plan, inventory record accuracy, bill of materials accuracy, routing accuracy, on-time release of shop orders and purchase orders, percentage of orders changed after release, purchase orders received on schedule, percentage of customer orders shipped on the promised date and percentage of customer orders shipped on the customer-requested date.

Inventory accuracy in 60 days!

Article Abstract:

Inventory accuracy can be effected in a short time if organizations remember that the human component of such strategies need to be primed for the process. The process of change must be managed in a slow, controlled manner with emphasis on employee training, policy standardization, facilities reorganization, record-keeping training and performance measurement. Other inventory accuracy techniques, such as repetitive, JIT, cellular and process- and project-oriented models can be effected throught this system of acclimatization.

Value-added forecasting

Article Abstract:

Companies should use the forecasting process not as a tool to predict specific events or outcomes but the set general trends which will lead to cost savings and value-additions in products. Good forecasting practices use forecasts to effect competitiveness, whether in production, marketing or planning, which means that forecasts are used to affect systems, not merely units.
