Empowerment as a process of evolving consciousness: a model of empowered caring

Article Abstract:

Research with public health nurses has helped produce a nursing model that combines increased awareness, skills, and knowledge to empower care-giving. This model is consistent with global nursing practice, contemporary nursing theory, and supported by those receiving nursing services.

Toward a praxis theory of suffering

Research suggests suffering involves the behavioral states of enduring, where emotions are suppressed, and emotional suffering, where emotions are released. People in pain move between these states according to their needs and the responses of others.

One direction in which nursing theory is moving is to practice respect and restoration of human dignity. Consilience unifies the philosophical, technological, and scientific knowledge necessary to support this approach.
