Evaluating nurse turnover: comparing attitude surveys and exit interviews

Article Abstract:

Research on the prevention of excessive turnover of nurses indicated that attitude surveys provide more helpful information than do exit interviews, but that properly conducted exit interviews used conjointly with attitude surveys can help in reducing nurse turnover. Exit interviews should be conducted by human resource professionals rather than nursing supervisors. Open ended attitude surveys, in which managers, as well as employees, participate enhances communication and understanding of behavior.

The role and impact of multiskilled health practitioners in the health services industry

Article Abstract:

Using multiskilled health practitioners is one of the ways to dramatically improve the cost effectiveness of health care delivery, while enhancing the productivity of employees. An emerging trend in the health care industry is the increased specialization of health professionals, while taking into account their limitations. While there factors that may forestall productivity, researchers are hoping to find solutions to these problems.

Improving nurse staffing measures: discharge day measurement in "adjusted patient days of care"

Article Abstract:

Nurses perception of work overload and their reports of understaffing are explored through the study of "adjusted patient days of care" (APDC). Findings of the evaluation of Pennsylvania hospitals from 1994 through 1997 indicates that APDC understates patient stay hours on the discharge day.
