Geographic aggregation of health data: a comparison of alternatives for 1990 and beyond

Article Abstract:

Computer mapping or the use of computer-generated maps which have varying shades to indicate the distribution of disease and other health data has proven to be useful in determining the allocation of much-needed health care services. Oftentimes, the aggregation of geographic units relies on conventional aggregation measures such as ZIP codes. However, units aggregated by ZIP codes often fail to truly represent the distribution of disease in many areas. Consequently, several alternatives to ZIP code-aggregation are presented.
