Criteria-based performance reviews in a hospital materiel management department
Article Abstract:
A new criteria-based performance review program developed by the Stamford Hospital in Connecticut in 1987 is described. The program involves a discussion of performance standards at the employment interview, during an employee's first week of orientation, at the three-month probationary review and at the yearly review. The new approach redefined the job description's relationship to performance appraisal and linked pay for performance to the review process. The benefits of the new system for the materiel management department are briefly outlined.

Critical factors for successful hospital-based case management
Article Abstract:
A study is conducted to determine vital factors which condition successful hospital-based case management services. The study considers the results of a demonstration program under which six Arizona and New Mexico hospitals participated. An overall objective of cost effectiveness and parent organization integration is considered. Results show that organizational placement, program management and financial viability must be considered for case management.
