How hospital users rate application software

Article Abstract:

Budgets for information systems (IS) increased in 1992 for medium and large hospitals but decreased for small ones, according to data gathered by Shared Data Research (SDR) for its 1992 Vendor Awards of Excellence. Costs are dependent upon whether the software can be purchased or must be licensed for a monthly fee. The services of software consultants must also be figured into IS budgets. The 4,366 participating hospitals spent $2.6 million on software in 1992. Information about how SDR's database can help vendors evaluate market maturity and application performance is also presented.

10 attributes of a hassle-free hospital

Article Abstract:

The attributes which make a hospital successful include treating everyone as customers, timely entry of laboratory and radiological data into medical records, nurses knowing their patients by name and being aware of their location, operating rooms and X-ray facility schedules allowing for work-ins, and personnel from different departments meeting with each other. A hospital with these ten attributes can save money, reduce legal risk, and improve care quality.

Retooling the hospital: moving into second phase

Article Abstract:

Total quality management (TQM), continuous quality improvement (CQI), patient-centered care and clinical paths are the primary guideposts hospitals must follow to restructure their businesses effectively. Delivering cost-effective patient care is the primary focus of TQM, CQI and clinical paths. Restructuring utilizing the above initiatives can help a hospital keep costs to a minimum and still provide quality care.
