I remember profits ... barely

Article Abstract:

Managed care provider Friendly Hills HealthCare Network is able to achieve a 4 percent profit through careful management of several factors affecting profits. One advantage is the company's use of a prepayment approach vs a fee-for-service system. Other factors include staffing composition shifted towards less-highly skilled workers such as nurse practitioners and physician assistants, and management of early discharge programs so as to avoid costly premature discharge of patients.

There's no business like big business

Article Abstract:

MedPartners Inc.'s acquisition of Caremark Homecare Inc. through a $2.5 billion stock swap creates a new healthcare provider that will have projected revenues of $4.4 billion in 1996. The firm, which will go by the MedPartners name, is the largest domestic physician practice management firm. Investors are apprehensive over MedPartners' acquisition binge, particularly of a firm as large and complex as Caremark, and drove the stock down slightly in trading.
