In the dark about safe sex

Article Abstract:

A survey by the American Social Health Assn found that the level of knowledge about sexually transmitted diseases (STD) is very low, both in the US and in several European countries. Many of those questioned were unable to name a single STD, and most had no idea how widespread the diseases have become. Health professionals must do their part in disseminating information about STDs and making young people aware how dangerous some of the diseases are in the absence of effective treatments. Prevention and early detection are therefore crucial to coming to grips with these infectious diseases.

Arizona voters to decide Medicaid expansion

Article Abstract:

The Healthy Arizona Initiative is spearheading an effort to put a Medicaid reform initiative on the Arizona state ballot in Nov 1996. The group wants coverage to be expanded under the state's Arizona Health Cost Containment System. Under the current system, residents are unable to receive Medicaid if they earn more than 35% of the federal poverty level, and initiative proponents want those who are at the 100% poverty level to be covered.
