Interhospital collaboration lets CEOs focus on their own missions

Article Abstract:

Rochester, NY, senior hospital executives report that a long tradition of interhospital collaboration provides each more time and energy to develop their unique missions. Factors conducive to interhospital collaboration among Rochester, NY, hospitals include a weekly meeting of participating hospital CEOs and regular meetings of other hospital executives. A shared commitment to long-term collaboration among participants and efforts to make collaboration part of the corporate culture also contribute to the success of collaborative efforts.

Quality coordinator: on cutting edge of change

Article Abstract:

Hospital managers may aspire to become coordinators in institutions committed to total quality management (TQM) programs. By promoting training and motivation, the coordinator supports the efforts of hospital employees to improve quality performance. For instance, executives may be trained in using statistics for decision making. Before assuming the coordinator's role, the candidate should make sure that hospital executives wholeheartedly commit time and money to furthering TQM.

The new position of nurse manager has empowered the bedside nurse to make critical decisions that influence the hospital work environment.
